A Second Marriage…

This is a follow-up from an earlier post where I’d found a previously unknown second marriage for my Great-Grandfather William Frederick Freeman.

William remarried in 1940, following the death of his first wife in 1935. His new wife was Nellie Hackett, a widow, aged 58.

Freeman & Hackett Marriage Certificate (1940)

I couldn’t decipher Nellie’s maiden name to start with, but a quick search in the 1891 Census for her family revealed it to be Facer – quite unusual – which made her first marriage, to Thomas Hackett in 1922 quite easy to find via FreeBMD. I most probably won’t be following Nellie any further back though as I’m trying to be more focused on my direct ancestors for the moment.
